Noise Impact Assessment for Garden Grill, Harlow

EMC Acoustics was appointed to undertake a professional Noise Impact Assessment for Garden Grill, 47 High Street, Harlow, in support of a planning application.

The client had recently taken over the premises from the previous leaseholder and wanted to make changes to the restaurant's commercial kitchen extract system. As the proposed works involved new or altered mechanical plant, an acoustic assessment was required to support the submission to the Local Planning Authority.

The Challenge

Commercial kitchen extract and ventilation systems can generate noise that may affect nearby residential and commercial properties. As part of the planning process, the client needed to demonstrate that the proposed system could operate without causing an unacceptable noise impact on neighbouring premises.

The client required EMC Acoustics to undertake the necessary site survey, assess the proposed kitchen extract equipment and provide a technical Noise Impact Assessment report for submission to the Council.

Our Approach

The EMC Acoustics team attended the site and carried out the required environmental noise survey and acoustic measurements.

  • On-site environmental noise measurements
  • Assessment of the existing background noise climate
  • Identification of nearby noise-sensitive receptors
  • Review of the proposed commercial kitchen extract system
  • Assessment of potential plant and extract-system noise
  • Acoustic calculations and technical evaluation
  • Recommendations for noise-control measures where required
  • Preparation of a comprehensive Noise Impact Assessment report for the Council

Recomended Solution

Technical Assessment

Using the noise measurements collected on site, our acoustic consultants assessed the proposed kitchen extract system against the relevant acoustic and planning criteria.

The findings and recommendations were incorporated into a clear technical report, providing the information required to support the client's planning application.

Expected Outcomes

EMC Acoustics successfully completed the site survey and provided the required Noise Impact Assessment for submission to the Council, allowing the client to progress with the planning process for the proposed kitchen extract alterations.

The client was very pleased with the professional service provided by the EMC Acoustics team and the support received throughout the assessment process.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates EMC Acoustics' experience in providing Noise Impact Assessments for restaurants, commercial kitchens, extraction systems and mechanical plant.

From initial site measurements through to technical reporting and planning support, EMC Acoustics provides practical acoustic solutions to help clients satisfy Local Authority requirements and progress their developments.
